Yorkie is half right I think. The first thing that you need to realize is that what you are applying for is an investment. Have you ever invested in anything? I have, and what I want to know is how this investment is going to pay off. When I say pay off, I'm not always talking about how it's going to pay me in money, but how it's going to pay off society. So when you go to answer this question, I expect that you should have words like passion and dedication rooted within your text. You need to look up terms like ethos, pathos and logos. These are tems that were passed forth by the mighty Aristotle. Tell us what you will do for us and all shall be well. Anticipate objections and counter. Good luck.

Obviously it's important to convey to them that you need the money, but that's probably true for most people that are applying. I think they key is for you to show them how much you care about the internship itself and that their money would be well spent if it's invested in you.

Good luck!
